I had totally forgotten about the waving man. This guy was awesome! For 30 years he waved at traffic in Berkeley and told everyone to have a good day. When I was little, seeing him was like seeing some mega-celebrity. I remember being too scared to wave at him because I was so in awe. When he died it was a really big deal in the East Bay. I always liked that he wore those gloves because it made his waving look more like the hamburger helper hand.
